The Men's and Women's Division was held in Greensboro October 29 and 30, 2011 at Bryan Park.
The Men's Championship Match was held the following weekend in Greensboro.

The weather started out wet and cold and by the second match of the dry the clouds had moved out and the sun warmed the day. Both days were filled with fast competitive matches that resulted in some very exciting conclusions.

NCASA Women's Division
2011 Women's State Champions
Sporting Charlotte !

In the Women's Division the Championship match ranks among the most exciting Finals NCASA has ever hosted. The Championship match was between last years State Champions, Sporting Charlotte and Triangle F.C. from Raleigh. The match was a roller coaster of ups and downs. Sporting Charlotte took the lead twice in the match only to have Triangle F.C. level the match twice but to deny victor in the dying seconds of the stoppage was just specular. Terrific continued play from both sides and forced the Finals to be decided by "Kicks from the Marks". After several converted kicks by both teams and several incredible saves by both keepers, the match was decided by the seventh kicker ........and Sporting Charlotte won the shoot out; 2- 2 (5-4). This win gives Sporting Charlotte 4 State Titles in a row!

Men's Division

Picture
The men's division was the smallest division of teams in 12 years, however the size did not diminish the competitiveness of the tournament.

The state was well represented. Teams came from Asheville, Charlotte, Winston Salem, Greensboro and Raleigh.

Group play was intense and it produced group winners; 2 teams from Charlotte, Sporting Charlotte and F.C. Sparta, African Stars from Greensboro and Centro America from Raleigh.
Sporting Charlotte won their semi final match in dramatic style against their home town competitor F.C. Sparta. Sporting Charlotte scored a late goal to send this 2-2 match into overtime. No score in overtime, "Kicks from the Mark" decided another State Cup match. Sporting Charlotte's goalie saved three well struck shots to send Sporting Charlotte to the Finals; 2-2 (4-1).

African Stars ran into a fast and creative Centro America from La Liga de Raleigh. The Stars had no answer for the team from Raleigh, Centro America won heavily 9 - 1.

The Finals were played the next weekend at Bryan Park November 5, 2011. An excellent match between the La Liga de Raleigh Champions and the Defending Champions Sporting Charlotte. Two very talented teams with very different styles, it made for great soccer and a very entertaining game. But it was the speed and creativity of Centro America that would find the seams in Sporting Charlotte's defense. Centro America led the match 2 - 0 at halftime and finished the game 4 - 0.
NCASA's 2011 State Cup Champions Centro America!

USASA Announces Hall of Fame
Congratulations to Mr. Bob Kepner!

Picture
The United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA), the governing body of amateur adult soccer in the U.S., announces the individuals selected to the USASA Hall of Fame, Class of 2011. The honorees will be inducted at the USASA Hall of Fame Ceremony Awards Dinner on Saturday, October 8th, during the USASA Midyear Meeting in Clearwater, Florida. Inductees were chosen on the basis of having made a significant contribution toward the development and advancement of adult amateur soccer at the national or regional level.

The Class of 2011, chosen by the USASA Hall of Fame Committee, includes: Dick Burns, Brandi Chastain, Casey Frankewicz, Robert Kepner and Hector Nava.  Hall of Fame Committee Chairman Bruno Trapikas, commenting on this year’s selections, said “All USASA members are most appreciative for the numerous contributions made by this year’s inductees. Each of the selected individuals, within their scope of concentration, has helped to shape the growth of the game and the growth of the organization in immeasurable ways.”

Robert Kepner (Administrator) of Durham, North Carolina, seems to pop up everywhere you look within USASA. Given his vast experience, administrative talents and passion for soccer, it is no wonder Robert gets called upon to lead so many initiatives deemed important to USASA. Following the 2009 USASA Soccer Summit, Robert was tasked with the role of Overall Implementation Team Manager while also serving as a member of the Best Practices team. On top of that, Robert is now leading the Membership team.

At the state level, Robert has been active with both the youth and the adults. Robert was the President of the North Carolina Adult Soccer Association (NCASA) from 1993 to 2001, the treasurer and registrar from 2001 to 2011 and as of today, is back in the role of President. In 1999, Robert helped establish the North Carolina Soccer Hall of Fame to honor those who contributed to the growth and success of soccer in the state. In 2004, the favor was returned as Robert was rewarded for all of his work and dedication in North Carolina and was inducted into the NC Hall of Fame.

USASA Veterans Cup 2011

Picture
The 14th annual USASA Veterans Cup was held July 5-10, 2011 at Seminole Soccer Complex and Sylvan Lake Park, Sanford, Florida. 63 teams were registered to compete for titles in 11 Women's and Men's divisions. This year's participation was slightly down due to the heat concerns many teams had in regards to Florida.

However, teams that attended this year's tournament experienced sun, rain, lightning, and great soccer. The heat and humidity was nowhere close to what teams had to deal with in MASS the past 2 years.

The O60 NC United beat Fichte Rams SC 3-2 in a nail bitter. The Men's Over-65 division saw the O65 Georgia/North Carolina United defeat St. Louis Stars 8-0 to earn their 2nd straight title.

For the Over 50's men's division Connecticut United was aiming for their 3rd straight title against Real Lyold. This game was tied 0-0 and heading to overtime when the weather gods were not cooperating with us. Both teams were declared co-champs but there were several players on both teams that felt they had the trophy in their bag. The only way to find out the answer will be next year at the 15th National Veterans Cup.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR NC TEAMS FOR A JOB WELL DONE!
